YBS bus lines investigated for taking more charges and misrepresentation

Some YBS bus lines in Yangon are reportedly treating passengers rudely and charging higher fare, and the Private Transport Supervision Committee is taking actions with undercover operation in the buses, according to the Yangon Region Transport Committee (YRTC).
YRTC is providing services to facilitate the travel of the people of Yangon. With increased tourism in June, a total of 2,870 buses were able to handle 465,262 passengers which is more than double the number of passengers in May.
“We have called in the committee members to supervise the issue regarding the higher fares and, been taking actions. Committee members are investigating by disguising themselves as passengers in the bus,” said YRTC Joint Secretary U Lian Qingman.
During the first wave of the COVID-19 period, YRTA collaborated with relevant departments for disease prevention education at bus stops, providing hand sanitizers and letting only passengers with facemasks in the bus. At present, respective bus lines are being instructed to continue to follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines to prevent further pandemic while driving, air conditioning in vehicles is turned off.
