Yangon-Mawlamyine train cancels due to Bago railroad floods

The railroad in Bago station has flooded.

The railroad at No. 60 bridge within Bago station yard has flooded, resulting in Yangon-Mawlamyine train cancelled on a temporary basis, Mawlamyine Railway Station announced on morning of 29 July.

It said No.82 Mawlamyine-Yangon train that departs from Mawlamyine Railway Station and No.81 Yangon-Mawlamyine train that departs from Yangon Railway Station will be cancelled on 29 July.

Tickets will be refunded at the station’s ticket counter from 6:00am to 10:00am. Yangon-Mawlamyine railway is used by many rail passengers and train schedules are always packed with passengers.

Bago river rises about 4ft above danger point in Bago on 29 July and due to the river floods, most of Bago downtown areas have been covered in water, according to residents.

“Most areas of the western Bago are covered in water now. The railroad is also flooded. Due to heavy rain, it is uncontrollable and the current is strong too. It is close to level of the last year’s flood. With relief camps, social relief associations have provided helps,” said a Bago resident.
