Yangon circular train services temporarily suspended for Thingyan Festival

According to U Thaung Htaik, chief superintendent of Yangon Railway Station, Yangon circular train services will be temporarily suspended from 13 to 16 April during the Thingyan Festival. Services will resume as usual on 17 April.

The Yangon circular trains usually run 26 times per day, and passenger numbers have seen a significant increase since February. Currently, approximately 7,000 passengers use the Yangon circular train on a daily basis.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yangon circular train used to carry around 80,000 passengers daily. However, this number decreased following the outbreak of COVID-19. Presently, there has been a resurgence in passenger numbers.

The upgrading process for the Yangon circular train is currently underway. Upon completion of this process, the circular train will be capable of transporting approximately 240,000 passengers. – ASH/TKO
