Weekly market update of dry groceries at Bayintnaung Wholesale Centre

Some commodity prices climbed on low supply at the Bayintnaung market in the post-Thingyan period. The price of palm oil declined.

Onion
Bayintnaung Wholesale market saw the entry of 210,000 visses of onions on 18 April and 90,000 visses on 19 April. The prices moved in the range of K1,150 and K1,400 per viss depending on the quality, size and producing areas (Seikphyu and Myittha) that day.
On 19 April, 59,456 visses of onions were supplied to the Pakokku market and the highest price of onion was K1,125 per viss in the wholesale market. The price of onions from the Seikphyu area was K1,300 per viss, following a supply of 9,000 visses of onions on that day.

Garlic
On 19 April, the prices stayed at K3,200-K4,100 per viss depending on varieties and qualities, whereas Kyukok garlic fetched K5,200 per viss.

Potato
The prices of local potatoes from Shan State moved in the range between K1,300 and 1,800 per viss. The potatoes from Heho and Aungban areas entered the Yangon market and there is no inflow from the Sinphyukyun area.

Chilli pepper
The wholesale prices of chilli peppers were K10,000-K15,000 per viss for long chilli pepper and Moehtaung variety. The prices of bell peppers from the Sinphyukyun area and delta regions were K13,500-K15,000 per viss.

Rice
Low supply of rice to the Yangon market hikes up the Pawsan rice price. The price of sticky rice is K93,000-94,000 per bag. The prices stood at K53,000 per bag for summer rice grown under the intercropping system, K60,000 for low-grade short-matured summer rice (90 days), K67,000 for Pawkywe variety, K75,000 for Pawsan rice from Bogale, K80,000 from Pyapon, K82,000 from Myaungmya and K105,000 for Pawsan rice from Shwebo area.

Palm oil
On 18 April, the wholesale market price of palm oil was K6,550 per viss. The price dipped to K6,400 at Bayintnaung market in Yangon on 19 April.

Pulses
The prices of various pulses stood at K2,070,000 per tonne of black gram (Fair Average Quality/RC), K2,315,000 per tonne of black gram (Special Quality/RC), K2,389,000 per tonne of pigeon pea (red gram) RC, K3,750 per viss of green gram and K4,700-K4,900 per viss of chickpea in Yangon markets. — TWA/EM
