Vice-President, U Henry Van Thio, presents victory banner to Myanmar Sports Team contesting in 29th SEA Games

Vice-President, U Henry Van Thio addressed the Myanmar sports teams which will be contesting in the 29th SEA Games at a ceremony held at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium (B) in Nay Pyi Taw, after which he handed over the victory banner to Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister and Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee.
First of all, managers, coaches and athletes who will be contesting in the 29th SEA Games, greeted the Vice-President and paid their respects to him.
At the ceremony, the Vice-President said, “I hereby urge our sports men to exert efforts to the best of your ability in the present games so that you can reach the climax physically and spiritually. If more medals are gained this time more than previous times, a brighter history of the Myanmar Sports Team’s triumph can be put on record. It is necessary for managers, coaches and sportsmen to understand that such contests in the international games as a team representing the nation is a good opportunity to promote sports and uplift the national image. While making efforts to develop the sports sector to keep abreast with international countries by laying down systematic plans, you need to be successful.”
The Vice-President added further, “Here, I would like to express my thanks to entrepreneurs, well-wishers and sports enthusiasts who willingly provided help and support for on behalf of the nation. Simultaneously, I hope you will cooperate with us in awarding prizes to victorious winners. The present national selected athletes are expected to have been equipped with necessary skills, capacities and high levels of achievement to win medals. During the period of contests, you need to practise the habits of non-stop training and developing team spirit. I would like to stress deeply that you should keep in your mind the motto – Never yield and have an indomitable spirit, to bring medals back to the country.”
Afterwards, the Vice-President, Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee presented the National Flag of Myanmar to Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister, offering certificates of appreciation to 100 Plus Co., Ltd, Kanbawza Brighter Future Myanmar Foundation, Max Myanmar Group of Co., Ltd, Ayar Myanmar Insurance Enterprises and Jewellery Luck Group of Co who contributed donation money. Next, Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister accepted the money donated by Shwe Than Lwin Media Company (Sky Net), Balance Fitness Nestle Myanmar Co., Ltd, Phyo Sithu Teak Plantation Co, Shwetaung Development Company and Myanmar Women Sports Federation.
After the ceremony, the Vice-President cordially greeted the Myanmar Sports Team member, managers, coaches and sport-persons individually, inspecting sports equipments exhibited in the hall. The 29th SEA Games which will include 38 events will be held in Malaysia from August 19 to August 31 2017. Myanmar will contest in 29 events by sending a team comprising 590 athletes, it was learnt.
