Union Ministers meet on teleconference with WB Country Director for COVID-19 response plans in Myanmar

Union Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry U Soe Win, together with Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun, talked with the representatives of development partner organizations led by Ms Mariam J. Sherman, the Country Director of World Bank for Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos, yesterday.
At the meeting, Union Ministers discussed COVID-19 response plans of Myanmar, and financial supports to the sectors of CMP, tourism and SMEs which were seriously impacted by the outbreak of pandemic.
They also clarified Myanmar’s negotiation with international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for receiving low interest loans and grants, as well as the quickest financial supports to the farmers.
Officials from the World Bank, the US/USAID, the UK/DFID, the Australia/DFAT, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and IMF expressed their appreciations on the Economic Relief Plan (CERP) of Myanmar, and offered their financial and other assistance to Myanmar, for the programmes such as the COVID-19 response activities.
The Union Ministers expressed thanks for the assistance of development partners in COVID-19 response programme, and said the Ministry of Health and Sports, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement will discuss using the international loans and grants as the key ministries related to these funds.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
