Union Minister for Industry on inspection tour of No (2) steel plant (Pinpet) in Taunggyi

Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than and Chairman of the Myanmar Economic Corporation Lt-Gen Nyo Saw visited No (2) Steel Plant (Pinpet) in Taunggyi Township, Shan State on 19 June.
During the visit, the plant manager explained the status of the plant construction and management whereas the Deputy Minister and the Managing Director gave supplementary reports on the project issues.
The Union Minister said the plant must prepare for the resumption of projects, and as 98.6 per cent of the projects are completed, all staff must work together for the remaining works as soon as possible.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and party conducted a detailed inspection of equipment installation in Primary Sizing Area, Secondary Sizing Area, Lime and Dolomite Plant, Romelt Plant Area, and coordinated requirement for setting quality standards for raw materials and finished products.
When the projects at No. 2 Steel Plant (Pinpet) are completed, it will be able to produce and sell 200,000 tons of pig iron per year, providing assistance for development of large factories engaged in iron and steel-related industries and SMEs as well as the socio-economic development of local people. It is a factory that will greatly assist in the transfer of advanced technology.
The Union Minister and the Lt-Gen also inspected the operation of the horse breeding department in Heho, Shan State.—MNA
