Union Minister for Commerce visits Competition Commission in PHL

Dr. Than Myint, Chairperson of Myanmar Competition Commission and Union Minister for Commerce, led a delegation to Manila, Philippines, on 7 May to observe the implementation processes of the Philippines Competition Commission (PCC).
The Union Minister and delegation received a welcoming speech from PCC Chairperson Mr. Arsenio Balisacan on 8 May.
They were then given explanations by Mr. David Fruitman, the Legal Consultant, on the objectives of competition policies and laws, general restrictions, the nature of competition, competing organizations, and the competition policies and laws of ASEAN.
They also received explanations by Shila Dorai Raj, former CEO of PCC, on setting strategic plans during the first phase of implementation of The Competition Law, managing human resources, organizing awareness programmes on competitiveness, and preliminary things to consider.
The two sides then engaged in detailed discussion on competitiveness. In the afternoon, the PCC Chairperson explained about the organization and tasks of the commission, experiences in establishment practices and strategic tasks. PCC members Amabelle Asuncion and Macario De Claro Jr. explained about the PCC’s rules and regulations.—MNA
