Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe joins special video conference of health ministers from ASEAN, US

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe participated in the Special Video Conference of Health Ministers of ASEAN and the United States held on 30 April.
Co-chaired by Indonesia and the United States, the meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and the US on the response towards the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the teleconference, Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe discussed Myanmar’s measures against COVID-19 and expressed thanks to the US government and the USAID for their donations of PPEs for the health workers and US$700,000.

He also talked on collaboration between the offices of US CDC in Myanmar and Thailand, and offered to increase the multi-centric clinical trials or studies on COVID-19 and beyond in the country in coordination with health and research institutions between ASEAN countries and the United States.
The Union Minister suggested capacity-building courses for younger health workers with the assistance of US CDC, experts from National Institute of Health, researchers from ASEAN countries and public health professionals.
Dr Myint Htwe also explained Myanmar’s efforts on fighting against the pandemic, with promoting the role of volunteers, and formation of national-level central committee on COVID-19 led by the State Counsellor with heads of government ministries.
Myanmar also agreed the Joint Statement of the ASEAN-US Special Video Conference’s Joint Statement in response to the COVID-19.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein, Permanent Secretary Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win, Director-General of Public Health and Medical Services Dr Soe Oo, Deputy Director-General of Public Health Dr Tun Tin and officials.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
