UNHCR Representative calls on MoSWRR Union Minister

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win hosted a meeting with UNHCR’s Myanmar representative Ms Noriko Takagi in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Discussions focused on UNHCR’s humanitarian and protection efforts, particularly for those affected by natural disasters and conflicts. They also discussed an MoU between the ministry and UNHCR and UNHCR’s collaboration with UN-OCHA to provide solar lamps in Rakhine State for Cyclone Mocha victims.
Following the meeting, the Union minister attended a donation ceremony by the Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (YNPAFFC) for Mocha-affected areas at the Disaster Risk Management Centre (DMC). Mr Gao Wei from the Yunnan Commercial Representative Office explained the donation, and the Union minister expressed appreciation words. The Union minister then presented certificates of appreciation to the Acting Director of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar and the director of the Yunnan Commercial Representative Office. These donations will support Cyclone Mocha rehabilitation efforts, with contributions from domestic, foreign, and international donors. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, in partnership with the Tatmadaw, will transport these donations to Sittway by plane for distribution to affected townships. — MNA/KZW
