UEC seeks political parties’ input for multiparty democratic general elections via paper-reading session

UEC officials meet those from 45 registered political parties at Yangon Region government office yesterday.

The Union Election Commission and registered political parties held a paper-reading session on suggestions for the successful holding of the multiparty democratic general election at the Yangon Region government office yesterday.
Speaking at the event, UEC Chairman U Thein Soe said the event aims to read suggestion papers for holding multiparty democratic elections and party-related matters. There are now 45 existing parties, and they should organize the political members and establish party offices within a fixed duration under the laws and rules.
He then talked about the proper duties of the UEC, including its inspections of political parties, the requirements to be performed by the political parties and implementing the genuine, disciplined multiparty democracy through the solid political parties.
He also mentioned the preparations for the elections by the UEC, arrangements to amend and release the relevant Hluttaw election law and rules that are in conformity with the PR system, and compiling of voter lists. He urged the participants to submit constructive advice for holding the general elections peacefully.
The event was attended by UEC members, the Yangon Region Social Affairs minister, the advocate-general, chairpersons of 42 political parties, and relevant officials of the UEC Office and departments. — MNA/KTZH
