Training and competition to promote food made from elephant foot yam to be held

The Myanmar Konjac (elephant foot yam) Producer and Exporter Association says it will hold a training course and competition on making food from elephant foot yam to promote domestic consumption.

A trainer from Master Chef will act as a judge in the training course and competition, which will be  sponsored by the association.

“It is organized by the Myanmar Konjac Producer and Exporter Association. The association is mainly composed of farmers, yam dryers and yam food producers. We will train them on how to produce food from elephant foot yam. Yam dishes will be prepared during the training course. Participants will be divided into groups for the competition. The themes will be breakfast, lunch and yam snack. Then, we will make them cook for restaurants and hotels by using the yam. First, second and third prizes will be awarded. It will be held on 30 March from 9 am to evening,” said Ko Pyae Tha San, secretary of the association.

The fair will showcase elephant foot yam with the cooperation of yam farmers, factories, merchants, yam food manufacturers, hobbyists, experts and yam food lovers.

The trainer from  KJ Konjac Food, which uses Japanese technology to produce yam food, and other famous companies will teach the production of yam powder food.

In addition, experts from the Myanmar Food Processors and Exporters Association will give lectures on the topics such as FAQs for commercial food production, how to conduct laboratory tests, improving shelf-life without fungus, packaging materials and labelling.

The first, second and third prize winners will be awarded K 10 lakhs, K 5 lakhs and K 3 lakhs respectively.
