Tomatoes are being traded at Nyaungshwe.

The supply of tomato has been plentiful in Shan State’s Nyaungshwe Township, making locals buying it cheap.

The tomato production has increased at highland area and Inle area in southern Shan State’s Nyaungshwe Township, helping consumers getting tomatoes with cheaper price.

“It is tomato harvest season at the highland area. The production is abundant because tomatoes are produced from both highland area and Inle area. It is raining here now. So it is good for consumers because they can buy it with cheaper price. The price has fallen by nearly a half,” said an official from Mibamyitta vegetable wholesale trading centre at Nyaungshwe Township.

Inle-produced tomatoes are being prepared to transport.

There are nearly 200,000 acres of floated cultivation land in southern Shan State, Inle and tomatoes produced from the area are transported to Yangon, Mandalay as well as eastern Shan State and northern Shan State, plus other regions and states, according to tomato wholesale trading centres from Nyaungshwe.

Including Nyaungshwe and Inle, tomatoes produced from southern Shan State are also transported to other areas.

“Now the tomato price has declined. Plantations from the highland area produced a lot and it is a factor. Tomatoes are also transported to other areas. The trading seems to be low. Other vegetables are also harvested now, but tomato production is distinctly large,” he said.
