Taungthaman Bridge and Taungthaman Lake in the Mandalay Region are frequented by both local and foreign travellers daily during the rainy season, with approximately 100,000 visitors on weekends, according to U Soe Win, secretary of the Bridge maintenance team.
The water level in Taungthaman Lake is gradually rising, and on 15 July, it was one foot below the bridge floor in the middle, and two feet below at the eastern and western ends.
“Until the end of June, there was not much water. At the beginning of July, it was still about six feet below the bridge floor. When the sluice gate was opened, the water rose to within one foot of the bridge floor.
Now, the surrounding area is filled with residents who come to witness the rising water. Approximately 3,000-4,000 people visit daily to see the water,” said U Soe Win.
