Online marketing trends and unique designs boost the clay oil lamp business.
The clay oil lamp sales tripled this year in the Mandalay market as the Thadingyut Festival (Lighting Festival) is drawing near, said Ma Aye Aye Myint running a Pyone Pan Thar clay oil lamp business in Mandalay.
This year, businesspersons leveraged digital platforms and boosted sales. Coloured clay oil lamps with innovative designs are in high demand with online shoppers.
“There are five or six designs of oil lamps with seven colours each. The unique design with decorations tripled the sales compared to that of last year. Moreover, we offer custom-made products as well,” she elaborated.
Thanks to the upgraded designs and online shopping trends, the clay oil lamps are distributed to markets of Shan State and Taninthayi Region beyond Mandalay.
“The traders in every township in Shan State purchase them. The demand from Tachilek and Taunggyi areas is recorded as the highest. Some traders from the Taninthayi Region even export our clay oil lamps to Thailand. As candle wicks are put in the clay oil lamps, we are doing a roaring trade. The clay oil lamp is pretty cheap. Most importantly, it can be reused many times. The bus terminals linking with the earthen craft businesses are doing well financially at present,” she continued.
The prices of clay oil lamps move in the range between K22 and over K400 per pc depending on quality, designs and types. — Maung Aye Chan/ EM
