The group matches of the 32nd SEA Games Men’s Football Tournament, in which the Myanmar team will compete, have been announced.
Out of 11 Southeast Asian countries, 10 teams except Brunei will participate in the SEA Games Men’s Football tourney.
Myanmar is placed in Group A with the host Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste while defending champion Viet Nam is falling in Group B with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Laos.
Group matches will be held from 29 April to 11 May, and the Myanmar team will play four matches in nine days.
Team Myanmar will take on Timor on 2 May, Indonesia on 4 May, the host Cambodia on 7 May, and the Philippines on 10 May respectively.
The Myanmar squad is expected to compete mainly with Indonesia and the host Cambodia to qualify for the semi-finals.
Team Cambodia has improved in the last few years and as the host country of this tourney, they will try to win a medal, so the Myanmar team is likely to play hard.
Germany’s Michael Feichtenbeiner is handling the Myanmar U-22 team as the head coach ahead of the SEA Games.
As a pre-tournament, team Myanmar went to Thailand for over a week of training and played four friendly matches against Thai clubs.
