Myanmar’s U-19 boys’ national football team was eliminated from the AFC U-19 Football Championship with a 0-1 loss against Australia in their final group match played in Indonesia yesterday.
In Group B, Australia sealed the victory over Myanmar, while Vietnam beat Laos 4-1.
The Myanmar team had no hope of advancing to the next round as they had drawn two consecutive group matches before this match, but they played their best against Australia.
Myanmar head coach U Aung Nay made some changes to the starting line-up to face Australia. The Australian team had already advanced to the next round but was eager to score goals, and Maden scored the only winning goal in the 35th minute.
At the end of the first half, one of the Myanmar team was sent off, so they had to play with one less player in the second half, but they were able to play without conceding another goal.
After the Group B matches, Australia topped the standing table with a total of nine points, while Vietnam followed Australia with four points, advancing to the semifinals. Two-point collector Myanmar and one-point gainer Laos were eliminated from the group matches of the championship.
The tournament is divided into three groups, and only the top team from each group and the best second-placed team advance to the semifinals. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
