The operation of the third liver transplant in progress yesterday.

Tatmadaw has achieved another milestone in the field of medical surgery with its third liver transplant procedure. The first liver transplant, performed on two patients on 27 and 28 September 2022, was a resounding success. Following that, Tatmadaw successfully conducted a second round of liver transplants on three patients on 30 and 31 January 2023, and 1 February 2023. Building on this track record, Tatmadaw has embarked on its third liver transplant, which commenced at the No 1 Tatmadaw General Hospital (1000-bed) in Mingaladon Township, Yangon, yesterday.
In this latest endeavour, the Tatmadaw surgical team collaborated with a team of Indian surgeons to operate on patient U Pyae Phyo Zaw and his sister, Daw Thwe Ni. The liver extraction process began at 9 am, and the transplant surgery was successfully completed at 4:30 pm after an intensive 11-hour operation. The patients are currently receiving expert care from a team of specialists, paramedics, and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and their condition is reported to be stable and promising.
The liver transplant surgery for the remaining patients is scheduled to take place on 19 and 20 July. This ongoing effort highlights the Tatmadaw’s commitment to advancing medical advancements and providing life-saving treatments to those in need. — MNA/KZW
