According to the Forest Department, six ministries will implement a total of 12 projects for the protection and conservation of forest resources this year (2024) with support from the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund.
These 12 projects, which will receive over US$400,000 in the current financial year, will focus on various sectors, including agriculture, livestock, and forestry resource conservation. They will also address the promotion of environmentally friendly practices and innovations in small and medium enterprises, village-level poverty reduction, information technology advancements, and cultural sector enhancement.
The Mekong-Lancang cooperation fund will support forest conservation projects in Kengtung and Tachilek in Shan State (East) and other areas related to the Mekong River basin. These projects will include educational initiatives on controlling pathogens and pests in natural forests and plantations and raising awareness about the dangers of chemical drugs. — TWA/TKO
