Shwezigon Pagoda to receive full gold plates in K4.7 bln offering

The pagoda board of trustees has announced its plan to apply gold foil to the entire Shwezigon Pagoda in the Bagan Ancient Culture Area, NyaungU Township, at a cost of approximately K4.7 billion.
Individuals interested in donating gold foil can contribute at a rate of K15,000 for ten gold leaves. Gold foil is applied to the pagoda every seven years, as stated by a member of the pagoda board of trustees.
King Anawrahta initiated the pagoda’s construction in 1031 ME, and King Kyansittha completed the structure in 1089 ME. — TWA/MKKS
