Seeds were dropped yesterday by helicopter over mountains, in a bid to replenish forests around Inle Lake in Nyaungshwe Township, Shan State.
The Ministry of Resources and Environmental Conservation dropped balls containing five seeds from different tree species across 1250 mountain acres.
The ministry plans to drop some 145,800 balls over 332,520 acres in the mountains around the lake.
“To drop seeds, we choose seven mountains which are 4000 to 6000 feet high in the eastern part of Inle Lake, along with on mountains west of the lake,” said U Thein Toe, Director of the Forest Department (Yangon).
The seeding took place at the jetty near the Inle Hotel Zone in Nyaungshwe from 8 am to 4 pm yesterday.
