ROK President visits Yangon, attends business forum

 

The visiting President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook, on their goodwill visit to Myanmar at the invitation of President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Win Myint and First Lady Daw Cho Cho, arrived in Yangon from Nay Pyi Taw yesterday by a special flight.

The ROK delegation was accompanied by Union Minister Dr Pe Myint and wife Daw Khine Nwe Oo, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Korea U Thant Sin and the Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Lee Sang-hwa.
They were welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and wife, Security and Border Affairs Minister Col Aung Soe Moe, departmental heads and officials at the Yangon International Airport.
In the afternoon, the ROK President attended the Myanmar-ROK business forum at Lotte Hotel in Yangon.
In the evening, the visiting president laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum, paying tributes to Bogyoke Aung San and other martyrs, and then visited the Aung San Mausoleum, the Korean Martyrs Memorial in the compound and laid wreaths paying tributes to Korean martyrs.
Afterwards, the ROK president and delegation visited the Shwedagon Pagoda, signed at the visitors’ book of the pagoda, and offered flowers, water, lights and incense sticks.
The delegation then observed the religious buildings, going round the pagoda clock-wise, and had a group photo taken at the victory land on the Shwedagon Pagoda platform. —MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
