Recruitment agency urged to send workers’ inward remittances

The Ministry of Labour has supervised recruitment agencies to ensure inward remittances of foreign salary in addition to sending labourers, said U Myint Naung, Union Minister for Labour.
The Union minister remarked at a meeting held at Melia Hotel in Bahan Township, where the chair of the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Association (MOEAA), officials concerned, and representatives of the working committee for each country were present.
Twenty-five per cent of the salary should be legally sent back to families through the government route. Workers must pay two per cent of the tax. Agencies should make sure workers repatriate foreign earnings on employment. The ministry is checking if workers send money to families or not, the Union minister elaborated.
MOEAA has formed association branches for Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and other countries.
There are over 500 recruitment agencies under the MOEAA, and representative sub-groups for each country are formed. They are monitoring sending workers abroad. With the cohesion of representative sub-groups, service charges for worker employment should be lower.
