Pyidaungsu Hluttaw approves motion to raise salaries of government employees in 2015-16 fiscal year

01Nay Pyi Taw, 12 Nov — Pyidaungsu Hluttaw session on Wednesday approved the motion calling for the Union Government and the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw to raise the salaries and benefits of government employees including the police and defence services, to adopt bylaws and rules and regulations forthe appropriate minimum wage of workers and for the protection of rights and interests of peasant farmers as soon as possible and to fix appropriate rewards and expenditures for union, region/state, self-administered division and zones level officials and Hluttaw representatives at the beginning of 2015-16 fiscal year.
The representative who put forward the motion said that the government employees are human resources that are essential for good governance and clean government but they are struggling to meet both ends although the government raised their salaries occasionally.
The representative also said that the matter should be considered from political, financial and administrative points of view and the salaries of government employees should be raised effectively.
Similarly, bylaws and rules and regulations to protect the interests of workers and peasant farmers should be adopted as soon as possible, the representative added. Concerning the motion, the speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw said that it is the responsibility of the union government and the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw to enable government employees and retirees to lead a life of dignity and to adopt bylaws and rules and regulations to enforce the laws that protect the interests of workers and farmers already enacted.
Afterwards, the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw approved the additional budgets for ministries and government organizations.
