Preparations for installation of a Pagoda Digital Directory at the pagodas of Bago Region were explained at the City Hall of Bago yesterday morning.
Firstly, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin clarified that officials are developing a digital directory of pagodas in Myanmar to enhance global awareness of the country’s cultural heritage. The directory will include information on both famous and lesser-known pagodas from different regions and will be accessible via a website using modern technology. The Department of Archaeology and National Museum is collaborating with the Universities of Computer Studies in Pyay, Magway, Toungoo, and Thaton to launch the Pagoda Digital Directory Web Portal as soon as possible. This project will be progressively implemented for all the famous pagodas nationwide.
Subsequently, relevant officials provided detailed explanations of the project’s progress, and the Union Minister addressed additional requirements at the end of the briefing.
The briefing was also attended by Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win, ministers of the Bago Region Government, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the Director-General of the Religious Affairs Department, the Director-General of the Archaeology and National Museum Department, departmental heads, rectors and faculty members from the Universities of Computer Studies in Toungoo and Pyay, pagoda board trustees, and other responsible persons.
Later, the Union minister donated K500,000 to the fund for overall renovation of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda. Additionally, it was reported that the Union minister inspected the maintenance of the Kalyani ordination hall, maintenance of Leikpya Lake and Gaunghsay Mingala Lake dredged by King Dhammazedi in 1475 AD and 1476 AD respectively. — MNA/ TRKM
