Plans underway to carry out 1,055 water supply activities in 974 villages

The Department of Rural Development stated that 1,055 water supply projects in 974 villages are planned to be carried out with over K28 billion of Union and regional funds in the 2023–2024 financial year.
A total of 474 projects, including the drilling of artesian and deep wells, the dredging of earthen lakes, spring irrigation works, and other related activities, will be implemented in 421 villages at a cost of over K13 billion to carry out rural water supply activities. In the 2023–2024 financial year, a total of 581 water supply projects with a cost of more than K14 billion have been earmarked to be implemented with Union funds.
Only 210 of the 581 projects planned to be implemented with Union funds have been started, and 80 of the 474 projects planned to be implemented with regional and state funds have been launched, according to the Department of Rural Development.
A total of 2,058 projects were implemented in 1,858 villages at a cost of K39 billion from Union funds and regional and state funds in the financial year 2022-2023. — TWA/CT
