Over K802 bln (US$381 mln) worth of drugs seized in joint operation by Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, Customs Department: MoHA UM

State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Chairman of the Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control Lt-Gen Yar Pyae addressed the 1/2023 central committee meeting in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the event, he said drugs are a grave threat to all mankind of the world, and there should be stability, law enforcement and public participation in solving the drug-related cases in Myanmar.
Moreover, the drug transitions are related to arms smuggling, violence, money laundering and transnational crimes and also affect the regional stability and rule of law measures.
He added that the country adopts the national strategic framework on drug control and proper strategic plans will be drafted for Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states.
He then talked about the launching of 38 operations to combat the drugs and now Operation 39 in 2023 across the nation while the man-made drug (synthetic drug) is the main threat in the world, with drug seizures worth over K802 billion (US$381 million) until 23 October 2023 during the joint operation of Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and Customs Department and close cooperation with UN, neighbouring countries, ASEAN states, Mekong regions, BIMSTEC members, international organizations in addition to Yangon-based UNODC, AFP, DEA, NNCC and ONCB to carry out anti-narcotics activities.
He then stressed the need to participate in implementing the New Drug Policy, follow the activities stated in projects for 2023 and take preventive measures for youths and entire people.
He concluded the meeting after hearing the presentations of the secretary and joint secretary of the central committee and other attendees. — MNA/KTZH
