Over K6.2 bln worth of Ice for smuggling into Malaysia seized in Yangon

Police seized more than K6.2 billion worth of Ice (methamphetamine) to be transported to Malaysia in North Okkalapa Township of Yangon, according to a police statement.
On 4 May, the Anti-narcotics task force seized more than K6.2 billion worth of drugs in a Toyota Wish car driven by Win Hlaing (aka) U Chel and Hla Baw in the Thiri Mingala Market of North Okkalapa Township.
According to the investigation, the police arrested other suspects Tun Naing and Win Myint in Mayangon Township on 6 May while Arr Gyi (aka) Arr Shi at the toll gate of Kyaunggon Township, Ko Pauk (aka) Aung Myat Win in Tachilek Township, Thai national Sai Shan Pha (aka) Bawn(aka) Mr Piayapong Khammongkhon and Sai Naw Kham (aka) Aik Sai in Pathein Township.
Similarly, the anti-narcotics agents captured a fishing boat, docked at the jetty in Dala Township, together with Shine Htet Aung (aka) San Shay, Aye Thaung, Myo Naing and Than Soe on 7 May and boat owner Nyan Win on 8 May while Aung Kyaw Tun (aka) Aik Sam in Tachilek Township on 11 May.
According to the investigations, they transported the Ice from Southern Shan State to Yangon Region to smuggle to Malaysia via sea route.
Among these suspects, the Thai national Sai Shan Pha (aka) Bawn (aka) Mr Piayapong Khammongkhon is the wanted fugitive by the Thai government for murder and drug cases.
Officials charged a total of 18 suspects including the ones who are still at large – Sai Gwam (aka) Sai Gwam, Sai Aung Nyunt, Arr Chan and Lu Phi. Officials also cooperate with the ONCB of Thailand and the NADA of Malaysia to arrest the remaining drug smugglers. —MNA
