According to U Bo Thin, a member of the pagoda board of trustees, a total of 5,291 foreigners visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in May 2024.
Most of those foreign visitors were from China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Visitors from America, Europe, and Africa also toured the pagoda.
“On weekdays, around 20,000 pilgrims typically visit the pagoda, with numbers rising to between 40,000 and 50,000 on weekends. About 150 foreigners visit daily, most of them come from China, Thailand, and Vietnam,” stated U Bo Thin.
On 21 June, the ceremony of Maha Samaya Day will be marked at the Shwedagon Pagoda, coinciding with Nayon Full Moon Day.
Due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the pagoda is open from 5 am to 8 pm. — ASH/ TRKM
