Orthopedic speciality hospitals successfully perform spinal surgery on patients with congenital scoliosis

The medic team consisting of spine surgery specialists Dr Thein Aung Kyaw and Dr Shein Myint Han, specialists Dr Naing Lin Oo and Dr Kyaw Lin Lin and Professor Dr Kan Min from the Swiss Spine Foundation in Switzerland performed the operation on pedicle screws and sods posterior fixation (PSRF) on 12 patients with scoliosis at the Orthopedic Speciality Hospital in Yangon from 12 to 16 June.
Since 2005, about 12 scoliosis patients a year on average have undergone surgery. To date, more than 200 scoliosis patients have successfully been operated at the hospital.
Cooperation between Myanmar spine surgeons and the Swiss Spine Foundation, and the exchange of technology will pave the way for international-level treatment for complex spine diseases, continuous development of spine surgery techniques and advancement of knowledge.
Spinal surgery treatments are also performed by professors and specialists at Mandalay General Hospital and Orthopedic Speciality Hospital-Mandalay.—MNA/KZW
