A section of the Meiktila-Kalaw-Taunggyi highway in southern Shan State was upgraded into an asphalt concrete road and formally opened with a ceremony yesterday.
The four-lane road is 48 feet long and covers the Kalaw-Taunggyi portion of the highway. It was completed under the B.O.T system by the highland road construction company.
Attending the ceremony were Union Ministers U Han Zaw, U Thant Sin Maung and U Win Khaing, State Minister Dr. Lin Htut, Deputy Ministers U Kyaw Lin and U Win Maw Tun, state ministers, Hluttaw representatives, department officials from the state, district and township levels, officials from relevant organizations, local residents and ethnic dance troupes.
U Han Zaw, the Union Minister for Construction, delivered a speech where he said the use of the B.O.T system enables the government to spend funds in other areas such as education, healthcare and other social sectors. He urged the people to respect the rules and pay service fees to maintain the high-quality roads built for them.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
