Myanmar’s POEA receives award from 2024 EPS Conference

Ambassador of Myanmar to the Republic of Korea U Thant Sin attended the 20th Anniversary of the Implementation of Employment Permit System (EPS) and 2024 EPS Conference and the Public Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) of Myanmar received an award, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The 20th Anniversary of the Implementation of Employment Permit System (EPS) was convened at the Lotte Hotel (Jamsil) on 12 August. Ambassador of Myanmar to the Republic of Korea U Thant Sin and ambassadors from 17 EPS member states that are sending workers to the Republic of Korea attended the event.
During the event, U Thant Sin highlighted the importance of providing more knowledge-sharing programmes for employers and employees to ensure workplace safety. In his speech, the ambassador also explained that the Myanmar Embassy is regularly providing information on occupational safety and informing the workers of abiding by rules and regulations of the host country. Moreover, the ambassador discussed that the newly arrived EPS workers are welcomed by Labour Attache at the airport, and they are briefed and given awareness measures at workplace. The ambassador added that the Myanmar Embassy is constantly cooperating with Korea employers to fulfil the Myanmar workers’ requirements.
The conference was co-chaired by Mr Lee Jung-Sik, Minister of Employment and Labour of the Republic of Korea and Mr Lee Woo Young, President of Human Resources Development of Korea.
In the opening speech, Minister Lee Jung-Sik acknowledged that the EPS system has been successfully implemented in collaboration with labour sending countries for 20 years. In addition, Mr Lee reaffirmed to increase the recruitment of foreign workers in manufacturing sector and emphasized to ensure equal opportunities and rights for foreign workers in order to meet the current situation of labour demand in Korea.
On the occasion, awards were given to the respective national labour-sending agencies, and Chairman of the Public Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) of Myanmar received an award. — ASH/TMT
