Myanmar participates in 4th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya International Cooperation Forum

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi attended the opening ceremony of the 4th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation at Lulang International Pearl Hotel in Nyanchi, Xizang Autonomous Region of China on Thursday.
At the ceremony, Mr Wang Junzheng, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee and Vice-Chairperson Ms Qin Boyong said opening speeches regarding environmental protection, highland sport activities and tourism development, green development, balance in ecological development and environmental conservation.
Speaking at the event, the Union minister said Myanmar prioritizes environmental conservation activities, and 47 per cent of the country occupies the Himalayan regions and is connected to Indo-Myanmar, the mountainous region of southwest China and the ecological transition area of the Himalayan regions. Moreover, 2.59 per cent of the total land area has been established as eight protected areas, including the Khakaborazi National Park in the northern Kachin State.
The country also works with international organizations for research to conserve biodiversity. He then suggested drafting practical and solid policies and procedures for implementing biodiversity, forest and environment conservation, investment, and nature-based industries. He then pledged that Myanmar would actively cooperate in relevant sectors among the countries of the Himalayan Mountains region and the Silk Road.
Attendees then participated in the discussion. At noon, the Union minister replied to the questions raised by media in Nyanchi.
He also met Vice-Chairman Mr Sun Xianzhong of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress, and they exchanged views on forest and biodiversity conservation, ecosystem conservation and further cooperation in human resource development. — MNA/KTZH
