Myanmar junior football teams to prepare for int’l tourneys

Myanmar youth national football teams will prepare for international tournaments depending on the COVID-19 pandemic situation, said football authorities.
Myanmar youth teams are planned to compete in ASEAN level competitions including the Asian Cup and the ASEAN Championships of youth version.
If no ASEAN-level competitions is planned for this year, Myanmar youth teams will have to prepare for next year’s competitions, said football officials.
This year’s ASEAN U-19 and U-16 tournaments are not confirmed yet due to the epidemics.
ASEAN football officials have set temporary decisions to hold ASEAN SEA Games, 2023 Asian Cup U-20 and 2023 Asian Cup U-17 next year, and Myanmar youth football teams will be under training for the tourneys depending on the confirmed fixtures and epidemics condition.
U Soe Myat Min is currently handling the head coach of the Myanmar U-19 team and U Chit Naing has been assigned as the U-16 head coach.
Myanmar junior team players were participating in domestic football leagues to gain professional experiences. Myanmar U-19 team will compete in MNL-2 (First Division) as Junior Lions while Myanmar U-16 team will compete in the MNL U-19 League under the name MFF Youth, but the competition has been suspended since March 2020 due to the epidemic. — Ko Nyi Lay/ GNLM
