Myanmar elderly committee held their third coordinate at meeting hall of Social welfare, Relief and Resettlement Minister’s office.
Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said that the aim of the committee is to bring about social development and rights for the Elderly. Social security program by the government aims to protect from fetus to the elderly. They have been successful in organizing a committee for the elderly. The law has been passed and it is needed to discuss the rules and regulations. Eligibility for the social pension has been reduced to 85 years on national level. They have plan to raise fund for the elderly. It is important to include the necessity of issuing identification card to the elder for health care, travel and security discount and free pass, in the ministry’s frame work. As estimated 10% of the population is the elderly, it is necessary to provide them healthy and active life style. He expect the the committee’s collaboration in taking care of the elderly.
Then, Director-General of Department of Social Welfare Dr. San San Aye discussed raising fund for the elderly and Director U Kyaw Lin Htin spoke of the current status of decisions made in second coordinate meeting and rules and regulations concerning elderly people.
