A Myanmar woman died from a traffic accident and her body remained unclaimed due to financial difficulty in Malaysia, however Myanmar nationals assisted in cremating the body with their collection, Myanmar Free Funeral Service (Malaysia) chair U San Win told The Global New Light of Myanmar.
She was a 37-year-old woman and undocumented migrant worker in Langkawi, Malaysia, and she was severely injured after her motorcycle was hit by a car from back on 2 June and died on 8 June while she was receiving medical treatments at Langkawi hospital.
“The car driver run away. She has no relatives here and can’t contact her family in Myanmar. She had been here for long. She owed the hospital over 7,000 ringgits for medical expenditure and nobody was unable to pay, so it made difficult for cremation,” he said.
A monk from Bawdi Oo Yin Myanmar Buddhist monastery from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan district heard it and he collected money from Myanmar nationals and residents in Langkawi to pay off her medical cost.
They cremated the body on 21 June at the island.
“Her friends from Langkawi gave contribution but it could receive for medical cost and 3,500 ringgits still needed for cremation, so we explained it to the funeral service company and they helped with free of charge,” said U San Win. — Htet Oo Maung/ZS/ED
