Myanmar-Bangladesh border trade estimated at US$4.45 mln in past four months

Myanmar conducted cross-border trade worth US$4.45 million with neighbouring Bangladesh via Sittway and Maungtaw posts in the past four months (April-July) of the current financial year 2023-2024, according to the Rakhine State Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Export ($3.57 million) surpassed imports ($0.88 million) in the Myanmar-Bangladesh border trade.
Trade via Maungtaw is valued at $2.52 million, while the value of trade via Sittway was estimated at $1.93 million in the past four months.
The trade value in Myanmar-Bangladesh this FY was down by 60 per cent compared to $11.51 million recorded in the corresponding period in the 2022-2023 FY.
The freshwater fish demand has dropped from April 2023, driving the export value to plunge. Yet, the fresh ginger demand rose, residents said. — TWA/EM
