The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday afternoon organized a virtual meeting to support volunteers involved in the COVID-19 response efforts. The virtual meeting was attended by Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, in his capacity as the Secretary of the National Volunteers Steering Unit, his Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, the Directors-General, Directors, officials from the Myanmar Medical Association and members of Youth Affairs Committee.
During the meeting, the Union Minister said that his ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Sports and the MMA, is providing assistance, training and certificates of honour to volunteers. He pointed out that more volunteers are needed in COVID-19 response efforts because the outbreak still occurs in some States and Regions, especially in Yangon Region.
In Yangon Region, fever clinics are located within reach of the patients, so the residents in the region can rely on those fever clinics, according to the Union Minister, who said that more volunteers are welcomed to work in the fever clinics.
Dr Mar Mar Kyi, who is in charge of fever clinics in Yangon Region, explained the role of volunteers and their collaborative efforts in the clinics. The volunteers working in the fever clinics also discussed the challenges they encountered in the clinics.
Members of Youth Affairs Committee from Yangon, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Mandalay and Ayeyawady regions and Mon State also discussed the challenges and the needs in their COVID-19 response efforts. The Union Minister said that his ministry would make further discussions and negotiations with regional governments and relevant ministries in order to fulfil the needs of the volunteers in COVID-19 response efforts. —MNA (Translated by Maung Maung Swe)
