MRF earmarks K50 mln financial support for flood-torn farmers

The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) has earmarked about K50 million to help the farmers whose paddy fields in the eastern part of Bago Region have been flooded, according to the central executive committee of the federation.
The decision was made in a joint business coordination meeting between the central executive committee, executive committee and member companies, with the K40-million contributions made by sister organizations of the MRF.
The meeting also covered topics such as domestic and international rice market conditions, loan programmes with warehouse registration and insurance systems, and measures for providing short-term financial support for the purchase of rice in collaboration with rice-specialized companies and MSMEs in the states and regions.
In addition, the measure to provide full loans during the crop growing season to improve the agricultural production of farmers who own more than 10 acres, plans to carry out local inflows of rice between the areas in the domestic trading, export-based rice reserve programme, matters to be emphasized for the re-entry of export earnings and the issues of paddy/rice trading at reasonable prices are also discussed in the meeting. — ASH/TH
