The Naga New Year Festival was observed on 15 January by the Naga community in Mowailut of Sagaing Region.
The festival is traditionally celebrated in mid-January every year, after crops were harvested and before new ones are planted.
The festival is aimed at helping future generations understand the cultural heritage of the Naga ethnic people, showing the solidarity of Naga people living across the country, and maintaining peaceful ties with ethnic groups.
Government officials, invited guests, members of the Naga Literature and Culture Committee, Naga people, and local residents took part in the festival. During the celebrations, the committee members and the moderator remarked on the emergence of the Naga New Year Festival.
Young Naga people also performed the traditional Myay Wine dance and the Naga dance as part of the festivities. — Township IPRD (Translated by Ei Myat Mon)
