MoTC Deputy Minister attends XVIII World Water Congress in Beijing

At the official invitation of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun attended the XVIII World Water Congress held on 11 September 2023 in Beijing, China.
The opening ceremony of the World Water Congress was attended by representatives from over 60 countries. Besides, technical experts and scholars from more than 30 international and regional organizations also participated in the event.
The deputy minister attended the opening ceremony of the XVIII World Water Congress and took part in the photo session of the congress together with the other leaders of the delegation. Furthermore, the Myanmar delegation led by the deputy minister exchanged views on water resources cooperation with dignitaries and resource persons from the participating countries and organizations.
The XVIII World Water Congress will be held for five days from 11 to 15 September 2023 in Beijing, China. The congress will adopt the “Beijing Declaration” as an outcome document of the congress, after incorporating views and comments from all participants and stakeholders. Congress participants will exchange views on ways and means to work collaboratively in achieving the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun also visited the Myanmar Embassy in Beijing and met Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe and staff of the Embassy on 9 September 2023.
On the afternoon of 11 September, the Myanmar delegation visited the Miyun reservoir as well as the Demonstration Project in Heishansi Village, Miyun District in Beijing together with other delegates.
In the evening, the Myanmar delegation led by the deputy minister attended a welcome reception of the XVIII World Water Congress together with congress participants. — MNA 1694415758716
