Freshwater pomfret, one of the most-consumed fish, has been sold well in the market.

It has only middle bone and it is tasty if it is eaten fried, so Myanmar people enjoy it. Being tender and less scales and bones, it is one of the most-consumed fish in domestic market.

At present, this fish are being sold at discount due to unstable price as a result of transportation delay.

“Freshwater pomfret is a most-consumed fish so we have to sell it at discount. The price is not stable. We are a wholesaler so the trading is doing well. There are farmed pomfret, freshwater pomfret and saltwater pomfret. They are freshwater pomfret,” said an official from Ko Nyi freshwater fish trading and highway delivery from Kyimyindine Baho Sanpya Fish Market.

In last month, a freshwater fish rohu price slightly declined but the trading was good. Rohu, striped catfish, pomfret and catla catla are most-consumed fishes in Myanmar. Freshwater pomfret can be bred mixed with rohu, striped catfish, catla catla and mrigal carp and its growth rate is twice that of rohu. – Thit Taw/ZS
