MoNREC discusses forestation works for upcoming monsoon

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi held a virtual coordination meeting with forest officers from states and regions yesterday.

The Union Minister discussed forestation, prevention of deforestation plans, illegal timber trade and law enforcement in this sector.

Myanmar has adopted the Myanmar Reforestation and Rehabilitation Programme from 2017 to 2027 financial years; selection of land areas for forestation has been complete for 21,540 acres under the Forest Department, 4,050 acres under the Dry Zone Greening Department, and 150 acres under the Forest Department, totally 25,740 acres. Eighty-four per cent of 26.39 million nursery plants have been grown, and 89 per cent of 10.7 million nursery plants from the department and public sector have been planted.

Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi said to conduct forestation works under the green environment campaign and prevent the reasons if deforestation and illegal timber smuggling through the community monitoring and reporting system.

The Union Minister and senior officials from Myanmar Timber Enterprise, the Dry Zone Greening Department, and the Forestry Department coordinated the discussions of officials from the respective departments via videoconferencing.—MNA
