MoHT discusses tourism development activities

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn chairs the MoHT coordination meeting for tourism development yesterday.

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Maung Maung Ohn held the coordination meeting for tourism development with the Chairman of the NyaungU District Administration Council, the Vice-Chairman of the Bagan Zone Hotelier Association, the Chairman of the Bagan Zone Tourism Entrepreneur Association and with the Hotel General Managers, in accordance with the COVID-19 health guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and Sports yesterday morning in Heritage Bagan Hotel, NyaungU, Mandalay Region.

said the development of the hotel and tourism sector would be accelerated and effective in accordance with the rules and regulations and policy set by the Ministry for the benefit of the country, people and entrepreneurs. He said the tourism sector is the symbol of the State and the hotel and tourism sector is a small ambassador of the State, as well as the Chairman of the State Administration Council, also pays special attention to the sector.

Hotels in the regions and states have been allowed to reopen in accordance with the COVID-19 infection control regulations. The Ministry provides training courses under the Enchanting Myanmar Health and Safety Protocols and issued certificates to the hotel staff. The Union Minister urged to work together as the hotels have been inspected and allowed to reopen in accordance with the regulations. He continued as the resumption of tourism will give priority to domestic tourism, entrepreneurs need to find markets to reduce accommodation rates with mutual trust in cooperation. He called on the hoteliers to openly report on the difficulties encountered in doing business.

Director-General for the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Maung Maung discussed the status of tourism promotion, reduction of the rental fees of State-owned hotels, inspections for the reopening of hotels and the possibility of opening training courses. The meeting participants briefed on the current situation of the hotel business, including matters related to the tax reduction, the provision of loans for the tourism sector and the Union Minister coordinated the necessary matters.

The Union Minister and party also inspected the Heritage Bagan Hotel, which was opened in accordance with the rules and regulations of the COVID-19 prevention and Aureum Palace Hotel and Tharabar Hotel and visited Shwezigon, Htee Lo Min Lo, Ananda pagodas and donated money to the Board of Trustees.

Afterwards, the Union Minister cordially greeted the pilgrims and visited the newly-developed Kyauk Myat Hmaw Tourism Development Zone in Bagan and instructed the requirements for the systemic travel to the members of the Destination Management Organization.—MNA
