MoEP Union Minister attends third day of SPIEF’23 in Russia

Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han attended the third day of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023 (SPIEF’23) held in St Petersburg, Russia on 16 June.
At the plenary meeting under the theme of the Role of the Nuclear Industry in “Achieving Technological Sovereignty and Technologies of the future ”, the Union minister talked about the key role of the nuclear industry in future technology development and an organization with technological sovereignty, the effectiveness of the nuclear industry to overcome challenges in scientific and technical sectors, application of nuclear technology in other sectors in addition to power generation and benefits of safety and efficiency increases of the nuclear power plant.
He also stressed the need to reduce carbon dioxide in all sectors that rely on fossil fuel to ensure CO2 free for the global economy and mentioned the importance of nuclear energy for that situation being the second-largest source of low-carbon energy following hydropower, the need to invest in research development programmes, education and training sections to achieve technological sovereignty, produce new generation scientists, engineers and skilled persons, provide the knowledge and abilities to the youths in nuclear science and technology sectors to move towards the future of continuous improvement and technical potential of the nuclear industry by making investments in research and development programmes and producing a new generation of experts.
At noon, the Union minister met with Mr Ferdor Opadchiy, Chairman of the Management Board of System Operator of the United Power System, a Joint-stock Company, together with Nova Wind JSC and discussed cooperation in Power System Planning. — MNA/KTZH
