MNHRC inspects Yamethin Prison, Kintha 1 & 2 Production Camp

The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, a member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected Yamethin Prison on 23 July 2024 in Yamethin Township, Mandalay Region, and Kintha 1 and 2 Production Camp on 24 July 2024 in Tatkon Township, Naypyidaw Union Territory, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
The inspection team inspected the mentioned prison and production camp under the MNHRC Law and procedures to see whether the prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare and provision of adequate purified water and court detention centre. The inspection team enquired about prisoners and whether they received their personal items and items sent by families, whether family visits were made, and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases. The inspection team also privately interviewed the prisoners who wanted to meet the team freely and privately.
The inspection team also inspected the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier, and water sanitation system of the Yamethin Prison and Kintha 1 and 2 Production Camp.
MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant departments for necessary action based on the findings during inspections under the MNHRC Law. — MNHRC
