Fighters showcase skills during the men’s boxing qualifiers in Yangon.

With the cooperation of the Myanmar Lethwei Federation (MLF), Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) and MBC Company, qualifiers for Myanmar boxers were held in Yangon yesterday.
Men’s events feature 50.80 kilogrammes (flyweight), 57.15 kg (featherweight), 63.50 kg (super lightweight), 72.57 kg (middleweight) and 79.38 kg (light heavyweight), totalling eight categories.
“There was a time when our Myanmar boxers were very successful. But now there are fewer boxers. Because of the lesser players, when we gather fighters, we see a lot of weight problems.
Although the weight class is different, we will choose the good one. Japan JBC will arrive here on 21 August. The referees and coaches will also come. We will select more players during the next round of qualification, MBC’s Managing Director U Kyaw Win Tun said. Both men’s and women’s qualifiers will continue on 21 August. — Arkar Linn/KZL
