Migratory birds winter in Meiktila

Flocks of migratory birds such as Golden-swan, Teal, Eurasian coot, Moorhen, Mae Nyo, and Eurasian curlew have come to the villages and lakes in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region, to spend the winter starting from late January.
“Although it is not seen the intentional capturing and killing of wintering birds, they are being captured with nets in the northern part of Kalama Kyun village,” said Ko Myo Win Aung, an amateur bird watcher in Pauk Chaung ward, who added that he only saw a sign forbidding the killing of the birds wintering near Lake Meiktila. He said it is necessary to educate people not to catch migratory birds and conduct field inspections.
