Maymyo flower growers are happy with earning good income, cultivating Maymyo flowers in Kyaukton village in Minbu (Sagu)township in Magway region, according to the Myamyo flower growers in Kyaukton village.
The Maymyo flowers bloomed abundantly this year. True, the flowers are not a food item; but they are essential to Myanmar people because every household is offering the flowers to Buddha either at pagodas or Buddha images seated on the altar at their home. The flowers are also used at the wedding reception, donation ceremony, hotels, motels and other festivals as décor.
There are many species of flowers. Maymyo flowers take about five months to grow. Each acre of cultivation will cost K 300,000 including ploughing and seedlings. The water is irrigated into the flower growing farms. Water is not   sprayed onto the flowers. The flowers need to be irrigated every five or seven days depending upon the soil moisture. The pesticides should be sprayed when there are the insects. The fertilizer is also used only when it is necessary.
The flowers are being sold every day because they bloom plentifully and simultaneously. One flower is sold for K 80 while three flowers are sold for K 200. So, the flower growers are happy with making of good profit from cultivation of  Maymyo flowers, said Daw Mya Kyi, a Maymyo flower grower from Kyaukton village.—Zayyar Htet (Minbu)/GNLM
