Mandalay welcomes Myanmar New Year

On the first day of Myanmar New Year, pagodas, temples, townships and wards in Mandalay were crowded with people doing good deeds.
The Mahamuni Buddha Image received its ritual of daily face washing led by Sayadaws with laypersons yesterday morning. Gold foils, flowers, lights, and water were offered by devotees, and the precinct of the pagoda was packed with donors and merit-makers.
In addition, Aungtawmu Pagoda, Shwekyeemyin Pagoda, Phayani Pagoda and other famous pagodas in Mandalay were also crowded with worshippers and well-wishers who donated refreshments.
Departmental staff and social organizations in Mandalay Region also made good deeds such as releasing the animals to safety, providing personal hygiene to elders and making donations.
In the evening, devotees invited Sayadaws and monks to recite sermons and Paritta verses for the increase of blessings, and people doing good deeds on the first day of Myanmar New Year were all over the city of Mandalay. — Maung Aye Chan/CT
